Investigation of the attitudes of students in secondary schools with and without gyms towards physical education and sports classes (Aksaray province example)

The aim of this study is to examine the attitudes of secondary school students towards physical education and sports lessons according to some variables. 937 students studying in secondary schools in Aksaray city center participated in the study. In order to determine the attitudes of the students participating in the study towards physical education and sports lessons, the "Attitude Scale towards Physical Education Lesson for Primary School Students" developed by Mehmet KARAKILIC (2009) with proven validity and reliability was applied. Frequency, Mann Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis H analyses were used in the statistical analysis of the data obtained in the study using SPSS 21.0 for Windows program. When the students' attitudes towards physical education lesson were evaluated at the end of the study, it was found that the students' attitudes towards physical education lesson were generally high. It was concluded that the students' attitudes towards physical education lesson were significantly affected by their gender, grade, age, being on a school team and having a gym (p<0,05). As a result, it can be said that some factors such as the physical structure of the school, the presence of a school team in the school, the presence of a gym, relationships between friends, the approach of families, physical education and sports teachers affect the attitude towards physical education and sports lessons in secondary school students.
