Abstract (EN)

This study was designed to investigate the effect of participation in sports on functional capacity of amputees. Ranging from 18 to 45 years; control group (sedantery amputee), (n=11) and sports group (amputee football player), (n=35) a total of 46 amputees were studied. The body composition of the participants were evaluated with skinfold. Postüral stability with Biodex Stability System, trunk muscles strength and endurance with Cybex Humac Norm 2 dynamometer at angular velocities of 600%sec and 900/sec were measured. Aerobic capacities were evaluated by cardiopulmonary performance exercise test with Breath-by-breath method. Pulmonary function parameters were examined. Although the body fat percentage wass less in the sports group, it wasn't statistically significant. The skin fold thickness of the triceps, thigh and calf regions decreased in favor of the participants of the sports group (p<0.05). Single stance postüral stability values were significantly lower in the sports group (p<0.05). Sports Group had higher trunk muscles strength and endurance (p<0.05). MVV (%) and PEF (%) values increased significantly in sports group (p<0.05). According to cardiopulmonary exercise test results; maximum heart rate and maximum systolic blood pressure values were found to be statistically higher in the sports group (p<0.05). Maximum dyastolic blood pressure of the sports group participants decreased significantly (p<0.05). It was found that sports group could exercise longer and carbondioxide output and oxygen consumption were significantly higher during exercise test in sports group (p<0.05). Anaerobic threshold ventilation and gas exchange values were also found to be higher in the sports group (p<0.05). As a result, it was determined that aerobic capabilities and power, postüral stability and trunk muscles strength, balance stability of sports amputee players were more advanced than non-sport amputees. Ultimately, we can say that disabled person who participates sports regularly has positive effects on the development of physical performance. Key words: amputee, football, condition, cardiopulmonary, isokinetic
