Abstract (EN)

The individual helps the society, rules, professions, traditions and customs, good and bad things, right and wrong, while shaping his / her personality through sports. Depending on the rules of sports, the importance of sports is important for learning the rules of work and disciplining individuals. In the light of this importance, in this research, it is aimed to examine and evaluate the personality traits, decision making styles and strategies with coping stres of the secondary school students who do and do not do sports regularly. The descriptive survey method was used in the study. The research group totally consisted of 309 students (121 female and 188 male) in 9, 10, 11 and 12 grades in secondary education schools in province of Ankara Cin 2018-2019 academic year. As a data collection tool, the Stress coping scale developed by Özbay and Şahin (1997) and the 5-Factor Personality Scale adapted to the Turkish language by Sümer (2005) and the Decision Strategies Scale developed by Kuzgun (1992) were used. The data were analyzed in Spss 22.00 package program and the significance level was taken as p <0.05. As a result of the study, it was determined that 70.9% of the participants did sports and 29.1% of them did not do sports. Again, in the study, it was observed that the participants had moderate levels of neuroticism, extraversion, openness to development, and self-discipline, and their compliance levels were above mid-level. At the end of the study, it was found that there was a positive and low significant relationship between the personality characteristics of the research group and the personality trait abstraction, extraversion personality trait, and the coping styles of religion and seeking help(p<0,05), It was found that there was a positive and low significant relationship between the personality trait religious asylum seeker, external assistance search and active planning and coping styles with stress (p <0.05), also It was found that there was a positive and low level significant relationship between the personality trait and self-discipline personality trait and the coping styles of religion and active planning stress (p <0.05). As a result, it is understood that secondary school students who are engaged in sports have higher averages in terms of coping with stress and decision making strategies compared to non-sports students. This may be due to the contribution of sport to psychological and social development.
