Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to determine athletes' trainer leadership behaviors, self-competence levels and the relationship between these two phenomena. The research was conducted on a total of 412 subjects, 128 of which were male and the remaining 284 were female. The subjects, who all attended the folk dance contest that was organized by the Ministry of National Education and Folk Dances Federation within 2017-2018 academic year, volunteered to participate in the research. In order to gather personal information about the participants, the "Demographic Information Form", which was developed by the author, the "Self-competence Scale", which was developed by Öcel (2002), and the "Leadership in Sports Scale", which was adopted to Turkish culture by Tiryaki (2006), were employed as data collection tools. During data analysis, descriptive statistics were examined as the first step. For the study results, where the effect of independent variables on the dependent variables were being inspected, t test was employed when parametric test assumptions were satisfied. For situations, when parametric test assumptions were not satisfied, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal Wallis-H test were used. While determining the relationship between athletes' trainer leadership perceptions and self-competence, Pearson's correlation analysis and linear regression analysis were utilized. While calculating descriptive statistics during data analysis phase, SPSS 20 software was used in both parametric and non-parametric tests. Validating factor analyses of the scales were performed using Lirsel 8.4. As a result of this research, folk dancers' perceived points from leadership scale and self-competence points differ with respect to gender, level of education, folk dancing career length, location of residence, parental education and socioeconomic status variables. None of trainer leadership properties were found to be significant precursors of sportive self-competence perception. Moreover, athlete's location of residence, level of education, economic status and parental education level were also determined as significant precursors. In addition, when the correlation between inventories was examined, a weak positive meaningful relationship was observed between folk dancers' self-competence perceptions and their trainers' educational, democratic, socially supportive, rewarding and autocratic leadership behaviors. Key Words: Trainer, Leadership, Self-competence, Folk Dance
