Abstract (EN)

This study examines the impact of the SQ4R (Survey-Question-Read-Recite-Review-Reflect) strategy on reading comprehension skills. The study's sample consists of 56 fourth-grade students attending an elementary school in Yeşilyurt Central District of Malatya Province during the second semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. A quasi-experimental model with pre-test and post-test groups was applied in the research. The experimental and control groups were formed through random sampling. The experimental group received reading instruction using the SQ4R strategy provided by the researcher, while the control group followed the existing program in the Turkish language textbook under the Ministry of National Education's curriculum, implemented by the classroom teacher. The strategy was applied for a total of 20 lesson hours, conducted twice a week with two lesson hours per session. The implementation was carried out using 10 texts. Pre-test and post-test questions were prepared to measure students' reading comprehension skills during the process. Expert opinion was sought in preparing the pre-test and post-test questions. The tests were evaluated based on the "Reading Comprehension Skills Assessment Rubric." The research results revealed that the SQ4R strategy positively impacts the development of reading comprehension skills.
