Abstract (EN)
The rivalry between the two superpowers during the Cold War, which is claimed to have ended with the dissolution of the Soviet Socialist Republic Union (USSR) in 1991, showed itself in a different way in the former Soviet geography with the 2000s. Georgia is one of the states where this rivalry, which is perceived as a renewed "Great Game" between the Russian Federation and the USA, is clearly seen. For Georgia, the 1990s was a period of political and economic instability and civil wars. The rivalry between the Russian Federation and the USA over Georgia, which opened its doors to a brand new era with the Rose Revolution in 2003, has changed the period for various reasons. However, South Ossetia, Abkhazia and Adjara regions, which declared their so-called independence in Georgia with independence, became a very important problem, triggering the cause of war with Russia in 2008. Georgia, which could not see the support it expected from the West in the war with Russia, caused many confusions such as the destabilization of politics in the country, the overthrow of governments and the making of revolutions with the wrong moves it had made. In this thesis, the political structure of Georgia in the post-Soviet period will be discussed, the independence of Georgia, whose first years were turbulent, its geography, the governments that were established and the policies of these governments.
