Evaluation of clinical parameters and inhaler drugs used in treatment along with scales indicating compliance with treatment practice in stable COPD cases

Abstract (EN)
This is a cross-sectional study that aims to evaluate the relationship between inhaler treatment compliance and clinical and demographic characteristics using the Medication Adherence Reporting Scale (MARS) and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8) in stable COPD patients. At the same time, this study aimed to determine the relationship and compatibility of two scales that evaluate treatment compliance in other chronic diseases as in COPD. A total of 110 stable COPD patients were administered MARS and MMAS-8 which indicate inhaler medication compliance and the patients CAT, mMRC scores as well as other demographic and clinical parameters, were recorded with a survey conducted by the researcher. It was observed that age (p = 0.020) and active smoking (p = 0.020) had an effect on inhaler medication compliance in patients, which was evaluated with the MMAS-8 scale.In the inhaler drug compliance of patients evaluated by MARS, it could not be shown that any sociodemographic-clinical features had an effect on drug compliance. It was found that there was a compatibility according to the Bland-Altman-Plot chart between the two scales in which inhaler drug compliance was evaluated. In addition, it was seen that there was a positive relationship with each other between the scales (r=0.801, p=0.001). It was found that there was a negative relationship between FEV1 (L), FEV1 (%) values and CAT and mMRC (p<0.001). It was found that there was a positive relationship between smoking (pack-years) and the number of hospitalizations in the last year (r=0.229, p=0.016). It was observed that there was a positive relationship between mMRC and CAT (r=0.681, p<0.001). As a result, there are various clinical-demographic characteristics that affect treatment compliance in stable COPD patients and may be interrelated. Taking these parameters into consideration in the management of patients may be effective in guiding the treatment.
