The behavior of pile foundations under static and dynamic vertical loads

In this study, the behavior of pile foundations under static vertical loads wasstudied. Pile foundations transmit the superstructure?s load to the soil safely in the case ofunsuitable soil conditions. Lots of methods were developed to determine the behavior ofpile foundations under static vertical loads. Pile foundations are designed according to theassumptions of solution methods, the right approaches of engineering judgment and theresults of computer programs that lead easy solutions to the complex calculations. In thisstudy, the vertical bearing capacities of pile foundations were determined by using thePlaxis program based on the finite elements model and by the empirical formulas. Staticanalyses were done by using the soil profiles belong to unsuitable soil conditionsdetermined under different superstructural loads. The applicability of the obtained resultswas considered according to empirical formulas and Plaxis program results. As aconclusion, the empirical equation which gives the closest result was obtained carried outby Plaxis program.Keywords: Vertical Bearing Capacity; Pile Foundations; Bored Pile; Plaxis Program;Pile Foundation Design.
