Imagology: It is a field of study, a sub-discipline of comparative literature, that investigates how different societies interpret each other and carries out this research through literary works. As can be understood from the fact that it is composed of the Latin words "imago" meaning image and "logos" meaning science, imagology is a branch of science that studies the formation of images. The concept of intermediality is a field of research that examines the relationships such as merger, fusion and transformation between media and is applied to create unified art forms. Adaptations, which describe the transfer of a text created in one media to another media, are one of the important topics of intermedia research areas. In this thesis study, the short novel Schachnovelle, the last written by the world-famous writer Stefan Zweig (1881-1942) and published after his death, and the work of the same name, directed by Philipp Stölzl and adapted to the big screen in 2021, are examined in terms of "imagology" and "intermediality" will be analyzed and the similarities and differences between the two media will be examined. This master's thesis will talk about images and their adaptations through intermediality, and will also point out to what extent the motifs in the plot affect the receiver. As a research method, in the first and second chapters, analysis and comments on technical terms and sub-disciplines determined as a result of the literature research will be used, and in the last chapter, the imagological and intermedial analysis of the book and the film adaptation will be used and when necessary, detailed reading and watching will be done, notes will be taken and analyzes will be made on the works. In Stefan Zweig's short novel and the film adaptation of the same name, the Nazi Regime and the period of exile are mainly discussed, and these works include people who met during the National Socialism period, the chain of events that develop when a character finds a chess book by chance, and the psychological devastation the main character experiences with solitary confinement is mentioned. The similarities and differences between the work and the film adaptation were compared from the perspective of imagology and intermediality, and from the analysis; The film adaptation has some differences, such as mentioning more characters in the film compared to the work, dealing with the violence of the Nazi period in more detail, and drawing more attention to the loneliness of the main character in the work; However, it can be inferred that loneliness, being forced to be alone, and chess itself are treated as remarkably the same.
