The effects of stretch packaging on internal and external quality traits of table eggs

The study aimed to investigate if egg quality affected by hen age, storage time and packaging with stretch film during marketing.A total of 1680 egg were collected from young (28 weeks of age) and old (80 weeks of age) Lohmann White hens. A total 840 eggs were packaged with stretch material and all eggs were stored for 0, 2, 4 and 6 weeks in room condition (22 0C room temparature and 45% room humidity) Egg weight, shape index, albumen index, fracture strenght, albumen index, yolk index, Haugh unit, yolk calor, shell weight, shell thickness, shell weight per unit surface of shell and shell density were examined in the study . The weight and shape index of eggs from older hens were greater than the eggs from young hens. The weight loss excessive for these eggs because their thin and poor shell. Albumen quality and yolk colar were dramaticaly decreased and egg weight loss were increased with increasing storage time and the albumen quality was poorer for eggs pakageging with stretch film. The overall results of this suggest that increasing hen age and packaging eggs with stretch film resulted in extremely egg quality loss during marketing.
