Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the change in both the number (single/dual/triple) and the variety (motor/cognitive) of tasks on postural control by adding a motor and cognitive task separately and simultaneously to static standing in healthy individuals. Thirty-six healthy individuals between the ages of 21 and 31 were included in the study. Individuals were tested as a single group. Postural control parameters of individuals were assessed by using Tekscan MatScan™ Pressure Mat System. The tasks used for creating multitask situations in this study were: Static standing as a postural motor task, repetitive head rotation as a dynamic motor task, and counting backward as a cognitive task. Individuals were assessed during four different conditions: (1) standing (S), (2) standing with while counting backward (SCB), (3) standing with head rotation task (SHR), and (4) triple-task state when all tasks were performed simultaneously (TT). According to the results of the study, the change in the number of tasks with the addition of the head rotation task caused a difference in the postural control parameters: S – SHR (p<0.008) and SCB – TT (p<0.008). The change in the number of tasks with the addition of the counting backward task was not found to cause a difference in postural control parameters: S – SCB (p>0.008) and SHR – TT (p>0.008). The number of tasks changed by adding the two tasks together to S caused a significant difference in postural control parameters (p<0.008), except for the displacement of the center of pressure in the anterior-posterior (p>0.008). At the same time, according to the findings, no difference was found between SCB and TT in terms of counting performance (total number of head rotation and error ratio) (p>0.05). However, in terms of head rotation performance (total number of head rotations), it was noted that the performance decreased in the TT condition compared to the SHR condition (p<0.05). A significant difference was found in postural control with the change of task type: BRA – GSA (p<0.008). According to our results, it was identified that the head rotation task performed with different tasks at the same time in individuals aged 21-31 may cause a change in postural control, and in some cases, other tasks may be affected while the person maintains postural control.
