Politics, society and women in Suat Derviş's news articles

Suat Derviş is an intellectual identified in many aspects. All these identification forms are undoubtly based on the actions she carried out. Being a figuration of an important social area and change, Suat Derviş is a figure with a strong background of articles and literary works. In this study, Derviş's activities as a journalist between 1935-1942 will be held.In the first part of this four-part studySuat Derviş's biography will shortly be studied. In addition, the deal with of ordinary people, which was reflected by Derviş, will shortly take place within the aspects of history science, via feminist historiography trying to bring her the place she deserves in literature and in the course of history.Derviş's biography will be narrated in parallel with some of the changes that took place in Turkey. These changes will be presented between the lines in forms of historical information/facts. In other chapters of the thesis, Suat Derviş's articles and interviews in Cumhuriyet, Son Posta, Tan, Haber newspapers between 1935-1942 will be evaluated. It can be seen in these articles that Suat Derviş, who is a member of the upper-class, tried to demonstrate the social reality through the lines of the low-classes so they include both Derviş's thoughts and the overall picture of society.These articles will take place under thematically categorized titles as "society", "women" and "politics". In the second chapter, there are different subtitles regarding the society. Through the title " women", which ist he main subject of the third chapter, the followings will be held: The views of Suat Derviş, who is identified as a feminist,on the women issue and the main problems of women from different classes. In the last chapter of the thesiswith the title of "politics", mostly her articles in Tan and Haber newspapers will be studied in order to understand or see the overall political view in Turkey and study of her dynamic political views will be held.
