Abstract (EN)

The Mongol Invasion, which began in the 13th century, had profound social, economic, and political effects on world history. It occurred when the scattered Mongol tribes of the steppes were unified by Genghis Khan, establishing the political unity of the Mongol nation. While Genghis Khan was the primary figure of both the Mongol invasion and the establishment of Mongol unity, the contributions of the commanders who stood by him were significant. One of these key commanders, known for his success in various campaigns, was Subutai. Subutai joined Temüjin before he became Genghis Khan. He played role in the steppe conflicts and helped Temüjin to become the Great Khan. After the completion of political unity in 1206, he gained experience firstly in the Tangut and Chinese campaigns and witnessed steppe warfare practices firsthand. Subutai emerged as one of the most prominent commanders of the Mongol army, especially following the campaigns against the Khwarezmian Empire. He commanded Mongol forces in wide and various regions including Central Asia, China, Iran, the Kipchak Steppe, Russia, Eastern and Central Europe, making him a central figure in the Mongol invasion. The study titled Subutaı's Role in the Foundatıon and Expansıon of the Mongol Empire analyzes his key military responsibilities and the vital role he played in Mongol conquests. It also addresses debates about his origins and other claims attributed to him in mainstream historical narratives. The study is based on primary sources, contemporary chronicles, and modern research.
