Relationships between political power and political opposition during the Şükrü Saraçoğlu Government era: RPP – DP example (07.01.1946 – 07.08.1946)

The main aim of this research is to study the relations between RPP and DP during the Şükrü Saraçoğlu Government by considering the political power and political opposition nexus from the establishment of the Republic. The study falls into tree sections. The first section examines the concepts of political power–political opposition relations from Ancient Greece to industrial societies in the West, political power – political opposition relations in the Ottoman Empire till its dissolution and the relations between political power and political opposition during 1919 – 1945. The following section surveys the establishment of DP and its political program. The last section examines RPP – DP relations during the Şükrü Saraçoğlu Government era. According to the findings of the study, the RPP – DP relations during the Şükrü Saraçoğlu Government era bear the stamps of the preceding era's political power –political opposition relations. During this era, the relations between RPP and DP carried on in a vicious cycle in which while RPP argued that it followed the aim of its founding purpose of instituting democracy in the country, DP stated that RPP's ultimate purpose was to carry on the single party rule and to dispel the political opposition in the country.
