Abstract (EN)

The Mesepotamian Front, which the British called "Mesopotamia Campaign", contains important battles with the British and the Turkish forces once again after Gallipoli Battles. With the beginning of the First World War, Britain launched the Iraqi campaign to ensure the security of the Indian Sea and to protected the Abadan oil installations in then Shatt Al-Arab neighborhood in the Basra Gulf and to provided British influence in the region. After occupying Basra on 22 November 1914, British forces moved forward and captured the town of Kurna where the Euphrates and Dicle rivers merged on 9 December 1914. In Kurna, 38th Division commander Colonel Suphi Bey and 45 officers sand 989 soldiers were captured by the British forces. The name of "Osmancık Taburu", which was formed with the participation of Army Major Süleyman Askerî Bey, who is responsible for the Tribal and the Muhajer Affairs at the Ministry of Internal Affairs instead of Colonel Suphi Bey, who was taken captive by Harbiye Minister and Deputy Commander-in-Chief Enver Pasha, and 40-50 Turkish officers voluntarily from Teşkilat-ı Mahsusa the battalion was sent to the region on December 17, 1914. Süleyman Askerî Bey was the first head of the Teşkilat-ı Mahsusa, created by Enver Pasha. He became famous in the Battle of Trablusgarp with Enver Pasha in Benghazi as a person known with courage and sacrifice. Süleyman Askerî Bey thought that he would provide Iraq's defense by using tribes and mujaheds against regular British forces. Süleyman Askeri Bey, who was originally promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in order to withdraw Basra from the British forces, was appointed to the position of the Governor of Baghdad and the General Command of Iraq and its surrroundings in early January 1915. Süleyman Askerî Bey, who wanted to withdraw Basra and Kurna from the British, moved forward with his force formed by irregular troops in the direction of Suayyibe. Süleyman Askerî Bey and his troops began an attack to the fortified British positions in Bercisiyye and Suayyibe on 11 April 1915; he has not been successful in combat for three days in the forests of Bercisiyye and Suayyibe. On the second day of the battle, Lieutenant Colonel Süleyman Askerî Bey, since most of the volunteer troops which had gathered from the tribes, disappeared in the middle of the army, army forces by giving heavy losses in half was forced to withdraw the few remaining forces in the night 14 April 1915. Süleyman Askerî Bey, who fell into despair during his withdrawal, committed suicide in the forestry of Bercisiyye by take this defeat as a matter of pride. Lieutenant Colonel Süleyman Askerî Bey's suicide and Suayyibe War are great importance have importance that lived on the Iraq Battle Front in the First World War.as one of the most important events on the Iraqi front during the First World War.
