Süleymaniye Library Ali Nihat Tarlan department 21-numbered Mecmû'a-i Eş'ar (229b-309a) (transcription text-review)

The mecmûa, or magazine, in being one of many forms of Ottoman literary and cultural output, holds an important place in Turkish literary research. As a matter of fact, its significance for literary history is only growing over time as more academic research on them unfolds.This study examines and describes sections 229b and 309a of Mecmû'a-ı Eş'âr, housed in the Ali Nihat Tarlan Section (No 21) of Süleymaniye Library, Istanbul. This three hundred and nine-folio manuscript contains the works of 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th century Ottoman poets. Those sections of the magazine written in Ottoman Turkish have been have been transcribed into the Latin-Turkish script, and included in the study.We have established what a mecmûa is, and have supported that with array of scholarly information. In addition, we have described the methods that we used in preparing the texts. We have introduced the poets featured through brief biographies, as well as have drawn up tables indicating each (Turkish) poem and the dates in which they written, using the MESTAP project as our point of reference. The conclusion section of our study lists our academic references, as well as features both a photograph of, alongside an overall assessment of text itself.
