Abstract (EN)

In this study, The adsorption of zinc (II) and cadmium (II) ions onto the boron waste from enrichment process of boron in boron plant bigadiç, balıkesir. has been studied. The operating variables studied were initial metal concentration, initial solution pH, adsorbent dosage, contact time. Equilibrium adsorption data was fitted to Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. Langmuir isotherm was found to be an optimum isotherm for two metals. The maximum adsorption capacity for zinc (II) and cadmium (II) ions were found to be 105,88 mg g-1 and 73,63 mg g-1 at optimum conditions of 25oC and pH 6.0, respectively. The equilibrium time for the removal of zinc (II) and cadmium (II) ions onto the adsorbent was reached within 60 min. Two simplified kinetics models were tested to investigate adsorption mechanisms, namely, in the first order and the pseudo-second order rate equations. The adsorption rates of zinc and cadmium were found to be in consistent with the pseudo-second order model.Keywords: Adsorption, Boron Industry Waste, Langmuir, pH, Pseudo-Second Order Rate.
