Viziership institution in Sunni political theory: Mawardi's viziership theory

This study has been discussed in order to reveal how Mawardi contributed to the theoretical background that guides the understanding of Islamic state administration, based on the theory of viziership, which was systematically developed by the Islamic thinker Mawardi, who held important positions at the state level. In addition, by seeking aswers to the question of how the Islamic management approach was shaped, under the guidance of the theory in question; it is aimed to develop an understandable point of view from the present to the past. The study also aims to contribute to qualified and original studies that will be dealth with on a similar subject by creating a question mark in the literature. The study, the scope of which is limited to Mawardi's views on viziership, will be discussed with the method of document analysis. Therefore, as a requirement of this method, Mawardi's works on politics will be used as primary sources in this study. In addition to this, scientific studies that center Mawardi should be mentioned as other sources to be used in this reserch. The study was mainly carried out on the thesis that Mawardi, as a Sunni political thinker, designed the caliphate as a symbolic office in terms of its powers. As a matter of fact, in the studies on his viziership theory, datas supporting this thesis have been reached. The most important datas supporting this thesis is that the caliph has limited powers to control the functioning of the executive, appoint or dismiss a vizier when necessary. In addition, the effort to create a competent administrator in Mawardi's theory of viziership, whose executive powers are fully entrusted to him, should be mentioned as another important data that strengthens this thesis.
