An analysis on the slow city movement in Turkey as a sustainable development model

Globalization, urbanization and technological developments along with these processes have revealed similar urban structures and textures. Likewise, lifestyles, eating habits, clothing and speaking styles, entertainment style, etc., which are identical to each other. Urban structures that standardized human life and imitated each other emerged. As a result of all these, cities have lost and continue to lose their unique local values, traditions, local flavors, historical textures and identities. The Cittaslow/Slow City Movement, which emerged against the homogenization and uniformization of urban structures and a life style focused on speed and consumption, aims to increase the quality of life in cities by preserving and maintaining cultural diversity, natural heritage, local values, historical richness and traditional tastes. It is a form of local government. The Cittaslow/Slow City Movement, which defends local consumption and local production against global consumption and global production, is a national and international union that emerged on October 15, 1999 in the city of "Greve in Chianti", Italy. The Cittaslow/Slow City Movement, which advocates a sustainable and livable order in urban structures and even in the protection of the environment, is a formation that emerged by combining the words "Citta (city, city)" in Italian and "Slow (slow, calm)" in English. The most important criterion of the Cittaslow/Slow City Movement, which defends locality, locality, traditionality and naturalness, is to include settlements with a population below 50,000. The Cittaslow/Slow City Movement consists of 72 criteria under 7 headings.. Therefore, in this study, it will be examined how the settlements with the title of Calm City gains after receiving this title. Likewise, the positive and negative aspects of the Cittaslow/Slow City Movement will be discussed and analyzed in line with its aims and policies.
