Sustainable Development is accepted as one of the most important elements of regional development. This is a result of the fact that regional development policies are doomed to failure without policies of sustainability. This study goes through development processes in the Southeast Anatolian Project (GAP) via a Master Plan, while programmes that were initated for environmental and social-economic points in co-operation with international and non-governmental organizations are analyzed. In addition, a comoarative analysis of GAP with respect to Italy's similar projects has been carried out in this study. Keywords: Sustainable development, regional development, Southeast Anatolia Project, GAP
