The importance of renewable energy resources on sustainable development and their applicability in Turkey

The increase in unconscious consumption of sources which starts with the industrial revolution and gaining speed with the rise of globalisation has created a global effort which requires to take measures urgently to transfer the liveable environment and permanence of sources to the next generations. In order to sustain the current quality of life in the future, this effort has revealed a model of human centered ?sustainable development? instead of exponential growth in economy. Sustainable development plays a big part to have not only a quantitative but also a qualitative development in economy. Unlike growth, it removes people from being a tool and makes them into an objective. In accordance with this objective, correct population policies, minimizing the income injustice, preventing the poverty and removing the unconscious immigration are the initial objectives. In order to achieve this, the required conditions are to increase the human capital by making technological progress, to have a sustainable environment by raising the awareness of public, to individualize the energy generation as far as possible and to achieve energy independence by passing renewable energy and decreasing the energy import. The aim of this study was to evaluate ?the role of renewable energy sources for sustainable development?. For this purpose, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of renewable energy sources, in terms of sustainable development, have been examined. As a result of the researches, it?s not wrong to indicate that without ignoring the current weaknesses and threats of renewable energy sources, increasing the density of it in economic systems by benefitting from the advantages would make a positiveimpression on applying more determined macro economic policies and increasing the social welfare.
