Abstract (EN)
The studies and measurements used to investigate corporate sustainability have mostly relied on global approaches and indices while limiting their focus on local issues. The main focus of this study is to examine the sustainability of local government and municipalities. It has become necessary to include the sustainability of local governments and municipalities in the studies on sustainability as a result of their inclusion in global partnership introduced as part of Rio Conference Agenda 21. Thus, it is essential to bring the sustainability of local municipalities under greater focus as they play an important role in advancing sustainability practices at a local level. Measuring municipal sustainability and allowing municipalities to study their sustainability practices is important in terms of allowing them to compare the sustainability practices with that of other municipalities. In this study, I aim to develop a sustainability index based a sample of municipalities selected from Istanbul, which is one of the most important metropolises in the world. The index is composing of three sub-indices which are social, economic and environment index. Measuring township sustainability and allowing small townships to study their sustainability practices is important in terms of allowing them to compare the sustainability practices with that of other townships. This will also increase their corporate reputation. The last section of this study utilizes statistical analyses such as Missing Value Analysis, Cluster Analysis, Principal Component Analysis, Composite Index Calculation using R programing language and IBM-SPSS.
