Regional power competition in Syria: Turkey and Iran example

This study examines the competition and collaboration between Turkey and Iran, which are regarded as regional Powers in the Middle East, during the period of instability and wars of hegemony in Syria. This study aims to explore the developments and change in Turkey and Iran's policies on Syria in the light of current issues in the Middle East; how relations between Turkey, Iran and Syria shaped particularly after the Arab spring. This study seeks answers to the question "How do alliance and rivalry between Turkey and Iran, the two regional powers, in the Syrian war serve to their interests?". As a result, the study reveals how the alliances made by Iran and Turkey with global powers, local powers and between themselves serve to their interests. Within this context, the study concludes that change and transformation in power struggles in the Middle East, local powers which gradually resolve and start to clash, and existence of these powers' supporters in different poles lead to changes in dimensions and characteristics of Turkey and Iran's efforts to fortify power in Syria.
