A comparison of post traumatic stress levels of girls and boys in refugee camps in Syria

The aim of this study is to compare the post-traumatic stress levels of girls and boys in refugee camps in Syria, who are still facing the threeat of war. 78 girls and boys between the ages of 7 and 12 living in refugee camps in the city of Tel Abyad, Syria, participated in the research. During this study, the Child Trauma Screening Questionnaire (CTSQ), developed by Justin Kenardy, which also had an Arabic reliability and validity study, and Child Post-Traumatic Cognitions Inventory, which was developed by Richard Meiser-Stedman and had a reliability and validity study in Arabic, were used for the children constituting the sample group. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 25.0 package program was used for data analysis in the study. Descriptive data on the sociodemographic information of the participants are also given in the form of frequency tables. As a result of the research, it was determined that boys scored higher than girls in the comparison of gender variable and post- traumatic stress disorder level. Another data on gender was obtained by comparing the reexperiencing score in the CTSQ scale with the gender varible. According to the data obtained, it has been seen that boy are faced with reexperiencing more than girls. The finding were discussed bu scanning similar literatüre and suggestions for future studies were presented.
