Migration experiences of Syrian women in the context of gender

Migration has been an important problem area since the existence of nation states and borders. Migration has started to affect the lives of many more people as a result of wars, conflicts, economic and environmental problems, and the expansion and acceleration of transportation and communication channels. People can migrate voluntarily or compulsorily for various reasons, either individually or in masses. Migration is a process that affects the life experiences of migrants in different ways. Factors such as class, gender, race, ethnicity, religion and language inevitably affect migration experiences. Gender has been a factor that has not been taken into account in migration studies for many years. In this thesis, the concept and theories of migration are evaluated from a gender perspective and -in the context of the impact of gender on migration experiences- the focus is on how forced migration affects women's lives. It has been tried to understand at which points women's experiences are common and at which points they differ. The aim is to understand and reveal the experiences of women who migrated from Syria to Batman, especially their domestic and working life experiences, the difficulties they face and their areas of opening up, their social, cultural and economic integration processes and their expectations for the future. The experiences of migrant women regarding the stages of deciding to migrate, the process of migration and the process after migration were conveyed using qualitative research method. The data of the field research conducted within the scope of the thesis were generated through in-depth interviews with 50 migrant women living in Batman. Descriptive analysis, one of the qualitative data analysis methods, was used to analyze the research findings and an interpretivist approach was adopted.
