The investigation of post-traumatic stress disorder and life satisfaction level according to various variables in Syrian refugees

In this study, which we examined whether the post-traumatic stress disorder and life satisfaction levels of Syrian refugees differed according to various variables, the central districts of the province of Mersin formed the sample region. The data collection form used in this study is comprised of a total of 4 chapters; namely ''Socio-Demographic Form, Traumatic Events List, Harvard Trauma Questionnaire (HTQ) and Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) ''. A pilot application was conducted with 32 Syrian adult refugees in order to test the compatibility of the data collection instruments with the standard Arabic and the comprehensibility of the items. 590 Syrian refugees over the age of 18 were reached within the scope of the research. 325 of the participants were female and 265 of them were male. As a result of the research; While a significant difference was observed between post-traumatic stress disorder and psychiatric diagnosis and residence time variables, a significant difference was observed between life satisfaction level, marital status, working status and psychiatric diagnosis status. In addition, while a significant positive difference was observed between exposure to certain traumatic events and posttraumatic stress disorder level, a significant negative difference was observed between life satisfaction level. The findings were discussed within the scope of the related literature and suggestions were made to increase the effectiveness of psychosocial intervention programs for refugees and to address more scientific stu studies in this respect.
