Tahsin Yücel's criticism and essays

Tahsin Yücel (1933-2016) is a versatile personality. He begins his literary life with a story. Then comes the novel. Since the 1950s, he writes essays and criticisms. He has review articles and books that he wrote due to his academic identity. He also works as a translator. The number of translated works is quite large. Tahsin Yücel, who is among the writers of the Republic period, collected his essays and criticisms on various subjects in eleven books. In our master's thesis, we dealt with the essays and criticisms of Tahsin Yücel's essay books thematically. Based on these articles, we tried to reveal the identity of the critic. Our study consists of 7 parts. In the introduction, we have included his life, works and literary personality. In addition to these, we discussed the history of Turkish criticism in general until Tahsin Yücel. We tried to reveal Tahsin Yücel's place in the history of Turkish criticism. In the first part of our study, we classified the critiques and essays thematically. While making this classification, we benefited from both essay books and articles published in journals. As a result of the classification we made in this section, we first discussed the articles containing his views on criticism In the second part, we discussed his writings on art, in the third part on language, in the fourth part on literature, in the fifth section on his views on translation, in the sixth chapter on social and political writings, and in the seventh chapter on his other writings. In the conclusion part, we focused on the elements that emerged as a result of the classification we made. In the appendices, we have given a chronological list of Tahsin Yücel's prose.
