Abstract (EN)

There are many events that played a role in Turkey's 1980 coup attemt. The tension between the right-wing politics and left-wing politics, which started with the 1960s, increased its effect more violently in the following years. With the influence of both the imperialist pwers in the world and the deep Powers in Turkey, through various events were organized and designed, atmosphere of turmoil was created in the society. As a result of this turmoil, the society was ideologically divided into two poles: right and left, and Alawite and Sunni faith. This polarization led to the assassination of people like Abdi İpekçi, Gün Sazak and Hamit Fendoğlu, whom the public loved and described as symbolic names, who ensured the integrity of the society. While the right-left ideological divide in the country was fueled, the Alawite-Sunni provocation was added to it. Thus, it has been tried to create the perception that people with sectarian differences are also hostile towards each other. With the use of political and sectarian differences as a means of provocation, an atmosphere of chaos has been created throughout the country and the ground has been prepared for social attacks. The social segregation created throughout the country has caused social events to occur in the provinces of Sivas, Malatya, Kahramanmaraş and Çorum, which are rich in social differences. The Çorum Incidents, which started with the murder of Gün Sazak, peaked with the claim that the Alaaddin Mosque was burned and bombed. While the Çorum Events started with the provocation of people belonging to the right-left ideology against each other, the events were tried to be transformed into a sectarian conflict by emphasizing the concepts of Alevism-Sunnism in the following days. As a result of the provocations that divided into the public of Çorum, the people attacked the people with whom they lived in brotherly and friendly unity for years. After the events that took place, while dozens of people were killed, hundreds of people were injured, hundreds of houses and workplaces were destroyed. In this study, the chronological development of the Çorum Events was shaped by the narration of the press and witnesses and the subject was examined.
