Kojève's interpretation of Hegel via recognition concept

This dissertation analyzes Alexandre Kojève's interpretation of the Hegelian philosophy by putting the concept of "Recognition" in the center. This study aims to question the validity of this interpretation of the Hegelian philosophy, which was put based on the Master-Slave dialectic. In this context, first, in order to identify the ways in which Kojève's interpretation differs from the Orthodox interpretations of Hegelian philosophy, this study addresses the arguments set forth in the process in which the French philosophy was receiving Hegel. Second, in order to analyze Kojève's interpretation, it explores the concepts by the philosophers who have an extensive place in his intellectual background. In this study, the Hegelian philosophy will be analyzed in detail centering around Recognition. After analyzing the chapter of "Self-Consciousness" in "The Phenomenology of Geist", which includes the context concerning the concept of "Recognition", and on which Kojève bases his interpretation, this study examines Kojève's interpretation by putting the text "The Introduction to the Hegelian Philosophy" in the center with reference to his other works. It exhibits the structure of Kojève's interpretation by collating the ideas of Hegel with those of his interpreter Kojève and identifies the extent to which Kojève's ideas conform to the Hegelian philosophy.
