Abstract (EN)

This study attempted to address the implementation of the Tanzimat in Ottoman Syria and the repercussions of this process. This study, which will deal with one of the important regions, Ottoman Syria, will examine how these reforms were implemented while dealing with the practical projections of the theoretical Tanzimat in this region. Furthermore, it aims to reveal how these practices of the Tanzimat triggered local uprisings, sectarian conflicts, and tribal movements in Ottoman Syria. It will also try to show what kind of demands Gülhane Hatt-ı Hümayunu came to the provinces, how these demands were perceived and interpreted by the local actors, and how they presented a creative adaptation or rejection process.
