Abstract (EN)

The main theme of the study of Leather Companies in İstanbul From Tanzimat to Republic is the leather and leather industry that has been active in İstanbul during Ottoman Empire. The concentration of the aforementioned institutions in Istanbul has been facilitated in terms of limiting the study area and for this reason, Ottoman Istanbul was emphasized. It has been tried to examine how the production, use and trade of leather, which has lasted from the first ages until today, in Ottoman Istanbul and how it operates. In the first part of the study, which consists of three main parts, there were tradesmen organizations in the Ottoman Empire and in the traditional way before tanzimat. In this section, mainly published works and archival documents were used. In the second part of the study, industrialization movements of the Ottoman Empire during the Tanzimat Era process and the last point of the leather sector in this period were taken into consideration. While examining these subjects, mainly printed works were used. In the last section, the position of the leather industry in the mechanized industry in the Ottoman Empire and the leather enterprises opened in this period as an example were examined. In this part of the study, we also guided us through the published sources archive documents and invoices belonging to the leather enterprises of the period.
