From tanzimat to II. constitutional monarchy biography in Turkish literature

Tanzimat is the period in the Turkish literature which emerged a new literary genre under the influence of Western literature and pre-existing genres changed, too . During this period, one of the literary genres that shows change is the biyography. In the studies about biography, it is explained that the biography is influenced by the tradition of the tezkire in Old Turkish Literature but from the period of the Tanzimat ıt gradually enters into the Western literature influence. But these studies can not show the progress of the development. The thesis which is in your hand is written in order to fill the mentioned gap and consists of the examination of printed books in the type of biography which published between 1860 - 1908. Thus, from the Tanzimat period until the period of the II. Constitutional Monarchy, it is intended to be shown how to biographical works were broke the tradition of tezkire and approach to the Western biography. In the 'prologue' section of the thesis it is primarily explained that 'Development of the Biography in Turkish Literature'. In this section, the tradition of biography which existed under the different names before the Tanzimat Literature period is mentioned. Secondly, under the tittle of 'From Tanzimat to II. Constitutional Monarchy Biography' it is briefly explained the development of the genre in the researched period. The examination of biography genres which was written from the Tanzimat to II. Constitutional Monarchy forms the main part of this study. In this section, there are researches about the works which were written and published in the aforementioned period at Turkish literature. With reference to these investigations, the results are in the 'Result' section of the thesis.
