Abstract (EN)
In the historical process, new constructions/interventions disregarding the original textures of the cities have caused significant problems such as loss of visibility by disrupting the historical silhouettes of the towns. In this direction; it is aimed to create a model for Silhouette Management to protect the original landscape values. In Silhouette Management, by focusing on visibility analyses, the perspective on the concept of visibility is reconsidered in a way that not only refers to the physical dimension of an area that people perceive visually but also to the indirect visibility dimension of areas that gives people a visual view. The scope of the Silhouette Management model is based on the necessity of determining, planning, and controlling the silhouette. It is shaped by a methodological framework that combines different methods and approaches used in visibility research (field of view analysis, Lynch's legibility approach and the Spatial Sequence method and segmental analysis, visibility graph, and isovist analysis) to explain visibility by measuring both the spatial structure and environmental perception through the potential for movement. The findings of the study reveal that the integrated use of direct and indirect visibility analyses provides quantitative and evidence-based results to produce more effective policies in the determination, planning, and control of the skyline. To move away from the tendency to address the management of historic skylines within the framework of the discipline to which the analysis methods belong, this study has resulted in a holistic consideration of contributions from different methods and a new visibility-based perspective on the perspective of conservation planning
