Value conflict in novel heroes of Tarık Buğra

The concept of value and conflict of values have been examined in terms of people, events and time in Tarık Buğra's novels. In his novels the author wants to give a message to the reader by giving examples from historical and political events. Tarık Buğra, who handles novels in a national line, approaches conflict of values over the lives of individuals. In the context of conflict of values, conflict of moral, religious, political, aesthetic, scientific, economic, social and cultural values have been studied on novels. The role of the people and the social environment in the works were examined and the reasons of the conflicts in the course of the events were determined. The conflict of values were determined in Tarık Buğra's following novels: Siyah Kehribar, Küçük Ağa, İbiş'in Rüyası, Firavun İmanı, Gençliğim Eyvah, Dönemeçte, Yalnızlar, Yağmur Beklerken, Osmancık. The novels' contents were predominantly historical, national and political. Eight of the events in authors' novels take place domestic and only one takes place abroad. In novels the author treated the topics as love, patriotism, national awakening, work discipline, politics and country management. Moral, social, cultural and political values have been influential in directing people. In the context of values, following conflict of values were determined. Moral values as loyalty, honesty, benevolence; politic values as patriotism and nationalism; social and cultural values as chasteness, friendship and conventionality; religious values as belief in İslam and respect to clergymen; aesthetics values as women, tastes and space; scientific values as having knowledge and learning science; economic values as earning and spending propitiously.
