Narrative and visual aesthetics of Tarkovsky's Stalker and Kaplanoğlu's Buğday films

Thoughts on the beautiful and aesthetic in art are dated to ancient times. In the beginning, it was tried to be expressed in numbers, but it was considered as an entity perceived by the senses in later periods. The acceptance of aesthetics as a science was in the 18th century with Alexander G. Baumgarten. Although his contributions to aesthetic science cannot be denied, many thinkers who succeeded him in the development of aesthetic science. Aesthetics, which is regarded as the science of the senses, nowadays focuses on human influences and influences in the context of the work of art. Gilles Deleuze, the philosopher of cinema, states that coming to earth is influenced. Aesthetic science examines the multi-faceted influences and influences of the senses within this broad and deep framework of art, artist, artwork and audience. In this context, the art of cinema is also within the scope of the study of aesthetic science. As an artistic product produced by the director, the film is watched by the audience and then they make a judgment about the film they watch. The various criteria for considering a film as an aesthetic object continue to be discussed in the historical process of cinema. Russian director Andrey Tarkovski, whom Turkish director Semih Kaplanoğlu calls "pirim,, is an internationally recognized artist with his films and books. Kaplanoğlu shot his latest film "Grain", inspired by Tarkovski's "Stalker". In this study, the historical process of aesthetics is discussed and the interrelation of painting and photographic arts with cinema is evaluated and thus the theoretical framework is drawn. Then, the films of Tarkovski and Kaplanoğlu are compared with the aesthetic aspect of the image. The aim of this study is to present the known Tarkovski effect on Kaplanoglu cinema more concretely. The absence of a similar study in the field is also effective in carrying out the study. The narrative, story, plot, mise-en-scene and cinematographic analysis of the films were carried out by Bordwell's method known as "Style Analysis".
