Abstract (EN)

In this study, credit usage and its determinants among hazelnut farmers in Giresun province are investigated. The reforms which were carried out in Turkey pertaining to the agricultural sector resulted in the integration of farmers into the financial sector, the reduction of agrarian incentives and the prompting of farmers to seek financial alternatives. The first section of this study consists of literature review on financialization considering various economical schools of thought. In this section, chronological view on agrarian financialization and global outlook of financialization is outlined. The second section composed of historical review of Turkish agricultural transformation and its drivers such as agricultural credit, agricultural insurance , agricultural markets and agricultural micro-credits. Last chapter of this study comprises the outcome of emprical analysis. Furthermore data regarding to hazelnut as an agricultural product is provided in the third chapter. Hence, results of emprical study indicates that credit usage and age, education, land ownership is statistically unrelated. The results of multiple regression analysis, on the other hand, demonstrated explicit correlation between agricultural income which obtained through producing hazelnuts and production cost whereas non-agricultural income marginally influenced credit usage of hazelnut farmers in Giresun province.
