The matter of reason in sufi thought

The issue of mind has been tried to be understood in every period since the existence of humanity and has been the subject of many branches of science. It is possible to see both itself and its reflections in philosophy, psychology, history, positive sciences and almost all of Islamic sciences. In our thesis, we will deal with the mystical aspect of this issue. According to the people of Sufism, the mind is not just a faculty created to understand the material world. At the same time, the metaphysical realm should also understand and know God, more clearly. There is no doubt that the mind will fall short while doing this. For this reason, Sufis have developed different methods in Sufism in order to understand beyond matter as well as mind. We can say that these methods are kind of discovery, inspiration and intuition, which we can see as a journey into oneself. As an infinitive in the dictionary, it means "to prevent, to prevent, to detain, to bind, to comprehend, to understand, to grasp, to intelligence". Sufis of the first period come to mind; they did not give a different meaning than the scholars of fiqh, hadith and kalam. They did not deal with examining what the mind is, but focused only on the benefits it provides in the field of science and morality. They emphasized these points while describing the mind, since they gave importance to spiritual fulfillment rather than material fulfillment. Therefore, mind; It is a very important faculty that helps us to know Allah, to give thanks to Him and to have the attribute of Furkan (the ability to distinguish good from bad).
