Özet (EN)

The "One Country, Two Systems" policy put forward by Deng Xiaoping in the late 1970s is one of the most intensely debated topics of asian studies today. China's economic and political rise since the beginning of the 21st century raises the question of whether this policy is an opportunity or a threat for Taiwan. The Pan Blue Coalition, one of the two main blocs represented by the political parties in Taiwan, is more moderate towards the Beijing Government and the idea of peaceful reunification, while the Pan Green Coalition holds more firmly to the concept of Taiwanization and supports the idea that a fully independent and democratic Taiwan should take its place in the international system. Social constructionism theory and the concept of identity construction were chosen as the theoretical framework of the study, which is used to understand the definitions and perceptions of individuals and communities in the international system and their interactions with other actors. This research aims to contribute to the Turkish literature by analyzing China's "One Country, Two Systems" policy, which has been the subject of many studies in the academic literature, in terms of national identity construction by putting Taiwan into a subject position. In this study, the approaches of domestic political actors in Taiwan to the "One Country, Two Systems" policy and Taiwanese identity within this framework are analyzed. Keywords: China, Taiwan, One Country Two Systems, Asia Pacific, Taiwanization
