Abstract (EN)

Masonry buildings are building systems in which masonry units such as briquettes, bricks, stones and adobe bricks and walls made of mortar used as binding material are used as the load-bearing system. Unreinforced masonry buildings are a type of structure with limited ductility that is constructed using load-bearing elements such as stone and brick and mortar without using reinforcement. Reinforced masonry buildings are structures with high ductility obtained by placing reinforcement on load-bearing walls in accordance with the regulation. Since unreinforced masonry buildings were manufactured from materials with low ductility levels, they did not perform well in earthquakes. Therefore, ductility was increased and made more resistant to earthquakes by adding horizontal and vertical reinforcement in reinforced masonry buildings. The current Turkish Building Earthquake Regulation (TBDY-2018) includes new design, rules and calculation principles for masonry structures. These calculations and rules vary according to different materials, earthquakes and soil parameters. In this study, unreinforced masonry buildings and reinforced masonry buildings were examined in terms of both the materials used and earthquake parameters. In the method used, firstly, the structural model of unreinforced and reinforced masonry buildings with the same architecture was created and their analyses were carried out according to TBDY-2018 under different materials and earthquake parameters. In the study, material definitions and modeling stages were explained in detail. These results were compared and the masonry building elements were examined.
