The effect of supply chain management on business performance: an example of bursa automotive sub-indusrt

In the contemporary economic climate, the necessity for businesses to capitalise on the potential offered by supply chain management is paramount in order to guarantee their continued viability and to gain a competitive advantage. An effective supply chain management system enables businesses to optimise their operational processes and improve their overall performance, while increasing their productivity. The objective of this study was to examine the impact of supply chain management practices on business performance in companies operating within the Bursa automotive supply industry. The impact of company characteristics was also evaluated. The study encompasses automotive supply industry firms operating in both local and international markets in Bursa, which plays a pivotal role in Turkey's automotive production. In this context, the data were collected from 108 companies selected by convenience sampling from a universe of 283 companies in the automotive supply industry sector in Bursa. The data were collected via email and face-to-face interviews, with the questionnaire method employed for the purposes of data gathering. The data were analysed using the SPSS 27.0 package programme. The findings of the study indicate that the implementation of effective supply chain management practices is associated with enhanced business performance. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that company characteristics, such as the duration of operation and the number of employees, exert a considerable influence on the efficacy of supply chain management processes. The investigation demonstrated that firms with longer operational histories and larger workforces tend to demonstrate superior supply chain management capabilities. These findings highlight the pivotal role of business size and experience in determining the success of supply chain management strategies.
