Evaluation of surah Al-Alak interpretation in the context of the development process of the science of tafsir

Science of tafsir has passed various stages through it's historical process. It may be possible to roughly divide this process into three different periods. The period from Prophet Muhammad to Jarir al-Tabari (d. 310/923) is called early period, from Tabari to 19. century is called classical period, from 19. century to this day is called modern period of commentatory. In this thesis we tried to show difference of commentatories through these periods which have their own unique characteristics by Surah al-Alaq. We wanted to show the difference of commentatories are natural processes based on known reasons and it's unnecessary to wear out each other by these differences which can be seen frequently today and as we know in the past. The thesis consist of an introduction, three main chapters and a conclusion sections. Methods and boundaries of this thesis mentioned in the introduction and early period of commentatory summarized in the first chapter then Surah al-Alaq studied and assessed from five different commentatories. Same method followed in second chapter for classical period and third chapter for modern period. In the conclussion part, difference from early to modern periods evaluated from a holistic point of view and naturality of difference in commentatories within specific boundaries are pointed out.
