Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of scapular stabilization exercises on shoulder functions in wheelchair basketball players, 15 athletes with a mean age of 28.3 ± 9 years and 10 players with a mean age of 32.7 ± 8.2 years were included in the study group. Both groups of athletes were assessed before and after eight weeks of exercise training for normal range of motion of the shoulder, shoulder pain, scapular position, flexibility of internal and external rotators of shoulder joint, and shoulder functions. The players in the study group underwent scapular stabilization exercises for two days a week with a physiotherapist and a home program for eight weeks addition to routine training programs. The scapular stabilization exercises given to the study group consisted of scapular stabilization program (W exercise, bilateral shoulder external rotation, rowing, ball rolling on the wall, etc.) with resistant exercise band and ball. Control group athletes continued their routine training programs for eight weeks. After eight weeks, the athletes were re-assessed by the physiotherapist. As a result of our research; there was an increase in the shoulder joint abduction of range of motion and shoulder functionality, and a decrease in the scapular position was observed (p <0.05). In conclusion, adding scapular stabilization exercise program to routine training program for wheelchair basketball players is beneficial.
