Kintsugi repair with technical, philosophical and metaphorical aspects and its experimental applications

Kintsugi is an ancient Japanese repair technique. The birth of the art of Kintsugi, which is closely related to Zen Buddhism, is associated with tea ceremonies and the wabi-sabi aesthetic, which constitutes the intellectual dimension of these ceremonies. This ancient art, which has been used for centuries, has philosophical meanings as well as being a repair method. This technique, which has ınspired many industries today, praises the hidden beauty of imperfections and appreciates the highlighting of these imperfections. This research, which is essentially based on a literature review, also includes applications made with this technique. Contemporary practitioners of this technique are also mentioned. Most of the information in Turkish is about the metaphorical and/or philosophical aspects of Kintsugi. Information on the craftsmanship aspect of the topic is limited. Two kits for the Kintsugi technique, which has become more popular in 2000, have been prepared that will be aesy to access in Turkey, applications have been carried out with these kits and the results have been reported. It is hoped that this thesis will fill a significant gap in the literature in Turkish.
