ABSTRACT Master Thesis THE REMOVAL OF COLOUR FROM AQUEOUS SOLUTION INCLUDE TEXTILE DYES Zeynep Eren Atatürk University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Environmental Engineering Supervisor: Asst.Prof.Dr. Filiz Nuran Acar In this study, the adsorption of Chemazol Black B and Chemactive D Black N textile dyes on Soma fly ash, Elbistan fly ash and activated carbon has been investigated during a series of batch adsorption experiments. The effectiveness of fly ashes and activated carbon in adsorbing dyes from aqueous solutions has been studied as a function of agitation time, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration and pH. The equilibrium adsorption capasity of absorbents for textile dyes was obtained by using Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. A maximum removal of 100 % was obtained at pH=l for an adsorbent dose of 1 g/L of 50 mg/L Chemazol Black B concentration on activated carbon and a maximum removal of 100 % was obtained at pH=3, 4 and 5 for an adsorbent dose of 1 g/L of 50 mg/L Chemactive D Black N concentration on activated carbon.
