Abstract (EN)

The manufacturing processes of the textile industry are very diverse and complex. As a result of the variety of dyestuffs and chemicals used in the processes, complex wastewater is formed that is difficult to define. Considering its quantity and complex structure, wastewater originating from the textile industry has more environmental pollution compared to other industrial sectors. The presence of colorant in very low concentrations in the receiving environment is undesirable for the environment and limits the reuse of the water source. It can also negatively affect people living around the water and their live life in the environment. In this thesis, the treatability of the waste water of the textile industry was investigated using Fenton (Fe2+/H2O2), ultraviolet (UV) and ultraviolet/hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2) processes. The aim of the whole study is to determine the conditions in which optimum removal efficiencies are obtained for each process. Initially, experimental studies in Fenton process were carried out at different concentrations of H2O2 and Fe2+, keeping the process time constant at pH <3 and 30 minutes. Optimum concentrations were determined as 1mg/L for H2O2 and 1 mg/L for Fe2+. In these conditions, 87,9%, 98,4% and 96,4% removal efficiencies were obtained for COD, turbidity and color, respectively. In the UV/H2O2 process, different process durations, H2O2 concentrations and pH values were tested. Optimum conditions; process time was determined as 30 minutes, H2O2 concentration 1mg/L, pH value was determined as 3 and 86,7% removal efficiency in COD and 96,5% in color were obtained. In studies carried out with UV process, 80,7% in COD and 90,9% in color removal efficiencies were obtained. When the results obtained in the experimental studies are examined, it is determined that advanced oxidation methods are very effective in removing color and COD from the wastewater of the textile industry and that these methods can be used effectively under optimum conditions.
