The effect of shadow plays on reactive agility, strength and jump in basic badminton training

Abstract (EN)

In this study, "The Effect of Shadow Games on Reactive Agility, Strength and Jumping in Basic Badminton Training" was investigated. In the study, experimental research pretest-posttest control group model, one of the quantitative research types, was applied. Ethics Committee approval was obtained and voluntary consent form was signed by the participants before the research. The participants were divided into 3 groups as shadow badminton group (GBG n: 16), badminton group (BG n: 16) and control group (CG n: 17). The mean ages and heights of GBG, BG and CG were 20.14±1.04, 20.10±1.25, 20.15±1.18 years and 173.88±6.62, 171.00±8.88, 166.41±8.09 cm, respectively. In addition to basic badminton training, BG and GBG were given a training program for 4 weeks of adaptation and 2 days a week, 90 minutes (min) a day for 8 weeks. Only GBG did shadow training for 30 min after training. KG continued with his daily life. Height, body weight, body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage, reactive agility, leg strength, right and left hand grip strength tests were performed in 3 groups before and after the study. Where as Wilcoxon test was used to determine the difference between measurements and groups, Kruskal Wallis H test was used to compare the difference in paired groups and Mann Whitney U test was used to determine the difference between measurements and genders. There were statistical differences (p<0.05) in body weight, BMI, body fat percentage, vertical jump, reactive agility, leg strength, right and left hand grip strength tests in GBG and reactive agility, right hand grip and leg strength tests in BG. Among the groups, there was a statistical difference between CG and GBG and BG (p<0.05), where as there was no statistical difference between GBG and BG (p>0.05). As a conclusion, it can be said that GBG and BG are effective on reactive agility, right hand grip strength and leg strength; GBG is effective on body weight, BMI, body fat percentage, vertical jump and left hand grip strength different from BG. Further research is needed on this subject, taking into account the training content and number of repetitions.
