The present study aims to investigate the driving vengeance behavior from the scope of basic individual values for the first time in the literature. Values as guiding principles of individuals have been studied in relation to various behaviors. However, the current study is the first study to use the refined theory of basic individual values for the investigation of driving aggression. In the present study, a total of 226 drivers (98 male, 128 female) have participated. Demographic questions were directed to participants, and Driver Vengeance Questionnaire is used to measure the vengeance behavior of the drivers. Refined Portrait Values Questionnaire was used to measure the participants' value orientations. Overall, four hypotheses were established to investigate the expected relationships between values and vengeance behavior in traffic settings. Bivariate Correlation Analyses were conducted to test Hypothesis-1, Hypothesis-2, and Hypothesis-3. Regression analysis has provided partial support for Hypothesis-1 and Hypothesis-2, and revealed that Achievement and Power-Dominance were positively related; Conformity-Rules were negatively related to driving vengeance. Lastly, one-way ANOVAs provided partial support for Hypothesis-4 and showed that prioritizing Conformity-Rules may inhibit vengeance behavior, especially for male drivers. Results of the study were discussed with their potential implications and future directions.
