The theological issue of body ownership

Today, with the development of medicine and technology, many innovations have emerged and these developments and innovations have brought some questions and problems. These questions and problems affect many different areas such as religion, ethics, law and morality. Euthanasia, suicide, abortion, genetic interventions, organ transplantation, cosmetic surgery, and gender reassignment surgeries are subjects of debate in terms of theology, bioethics, and morality regarding interventions on the human body. Does body ownership belong to God or to humans, whom God has created and endowed with partial free will? Is an individual free to make changes and interventions on their own body? Are these changes and interventions ethical and moral? It is undeniable that the changing worldview also plays a role in the emergence of these questions alongside the progress of medicine and technology. With the expansion of popular ideological movements, facilitated by social media and the internet, ideas spread to larger audiences at a faster place. In people's actions, there are defining factors such as religion, law, ethics, morality, and societal pressure that set boundaries. However, individuals often attempt to push and even exceed these boundaries with their actions. Situations arise where these restrictive factors come into conflict with each other or differ due to religious and cultural diversity. Bioethical values and religious values can sometimes clash. In our study, we will approach the issue of body ownership from a theological perspective and attempt to address the concepts of human freedom and bioethics, providing answers to the aforementioned questions.
