The physical education opinion in the last period Ottoman history based on the journal of "Terbiye ve oyun"

After the proclamation of the Second Constitutional Monarchy, a revival occurred in the press life and many newspapers and magazines in various fields began their publication life. Terbiye ve Oyun Mecmuası is one of the journals that started publication on 14 August 1911 because of this revival. It is a journal that completed its first publication period between 1911-1912 and its second publication period between 1922-1923 under the direction of Selim Sırrı Tarcan. Various social and cultural issues are also included in the magazine, in which physical education and gymnastics have a predominant place A total of thirty-six issues were published in this journal in two periods. It has been stated that the aim of the journal is to educate young people mentally, physically, and spiritually. In addition to this, it has been determined that various articles are included in the journal to increase the awareness of physical health in the society. In this study, not only the field of physical education, but also information about various sports branches is included. Among these sports branches, especially gymnastics, other sports branches such as football, tennis, and basketball, which were not common at that time, were explained in detail, and information on how to play games for children's health was shown among the findings. In addition, many important foreign works were translated in the journal. There are many articles aiming at mental and physical education on women's and children's education. While this study was being prepared, 588 pages of the 36-issue magazine were translated. The subheadings were prepared within the scope of the data obtained. The translations handled within the framework of titling were evaluated by adapting them to today's Turkish. Thus, it was tried to create an original study based on scientific research methods in accordance with the methodology of history.
