Abstract (EN)

This study aims to increase the number of traffic served within Terminal Control Areas (TMAs) using a dynamic planning method for the configuration of entry-points according to their capacities. In order to provide an efficient use of airspace, the proposed methods intends to simplify the current airspace organization of TMAs. Though numerous studies are available regarding the re-organization of routes within TMAs, none of them focused on the planning of entry-points. Therefore, this new method offers an alternative perspective proposing solution for air traffic flow and capacity problems prior to the entry of corresponding TMAs. The dynamic planning algorithm provides a decision model for the location and conditions of new entry points to be generated. A Fast-time simulation technique is used to model and test the model for various alternative simulation scenarios in Yeşilköy TMA. The differences between airspace models in alternative scenarios and the current airspace were compared. In addition, a regression analysis was performed to explain causes of delay quantitatively within the TMA.
